How to Save Money On Wedding Flowers: 5 Methods for the Future Bride and Groom
The ring is on her finger, the date is set. The two of you are about to set out on a crazy adventure for the rest of your lives.
The average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is a whopping $33,931. From the dress to the venue to the photographer, everything adds up.
As a prudent couple, you don’t want to start married life in debt so you’re looking to trim the fat where you can. Keep reading this article to learn how to save money on wedding flowers.
Choose Your Florist Well
You should choose not only a talented florist but also a practical one. Florists, especially one local to your area, know the best secrets when it comes to buying wedding flowers on a budget. Choose a florist who will be happy to put that information to good use when helping you choose your flowers.
But how do you know who is a good florist in your area? An FTD florist is an excellent choice. They vet local florists for you so you don’t have to.
Buy Flowers in Season
Online Flowers that are in season locally will be far less expensive because they are easier for your florist to get ahold of. Talk to your florist about what will be in season for your special day.
Also, avoid having your wedding near holidays that are peak times for florists. For example, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. Wedding flowers on those days may come at a premium because they’re so busy.
Go for the Doppelgangers
While many flowers are gorgeous and unique, some flowers look similar to one another. Their similarity in look, however, doesn’t necessarily translate to price.
Dozens of roses would be lovely but are out of your budget. However, dozens of peonies gracing the tables at your reception will lend a similar look, without a similar price tag.
For memory’s sake, consider adding roses to your bouquet since those are the flowers the photographer will be photographing. Ask your florist about other look-alikes for the flowers that you adore.
Go for Three Types Max
Buying in bulk will lower the cost per bloom. If you choose six different types of flowers for your arrangements, your florist will be ordering less of each type and may not qualify for the bulk discounts.
Sticking to one type of flower will usually be the most cost-effective, albeit a little repetitive. If you’re having a large wedding with lots of floral centerpieces, you can probably order up to three types and still qualify for wholesale discounts.
Incorporate Lots of Green
There are many types of accent greenery that florists use in arranging. Many of them are quite beautiful in their own right.
Greenery also tends to be less expensive than the blooms themselves. The more green you use in the wedding flower arrangements the less green you’ll spend on them.
