Science Party

Decor: Fill your home with all things science including old lava lamps, rock collections, white lab coats, plastic beakers and handmade warning signs. Keep the colors for balloons, streamers and invitations very subdued, like white, blue and silver, to mimic sterile laboratory surroundings.

Decor: Great decoration ideas for this theme include magnifying glasses, shovels, pails and safari-type hats. Hang maps on the walls all around the party room.
Activities: Hide dinosaur bones (aka dog bones) around the house or backyard; kids can pretend to be paleontologists looking for the bones. Make up a story about the dig they're on and hand out prizes when they've found them all.

Decor: Encourage kids to dress-up for the party. Girls should wear their best gowns, boys should make cardboard armors and wizards should done capes. Have extra tiaras, plastic swords and magician wands lying around for props. Drape sheets around the designated party room to give the place a castle-like atmosphere and use medieval-themed dinnerware, like goblets to set the mood. Finally, remember, purple is the color of royalty, so use this hue for balloons and streamers.
Activities: Have your young knights and princesses slay a dragon piñata. Fill the inside with themed prizes, like jewel candies and fireballs, and give the winner a knighting ceremony. Or try a royal scavenger hunt with a treasure chest as the prize.

Decor: You can buy an inexpensive bubble machineto create an underwater ambiance that kids will love. Use blue and green tissue paper on windows to make a teal glow throughout the room that looks like glimmering ocean water and hang green streamers from the ceiling to look like seaweed.
Activities: Instead of Duck, Duck, Goose, let the kids play Fish, Fish, Shark to get into the marine theme. Another fun underwater activity, have craft sticks and thick paper for kids to make their very own sea creature puppets. Then have them put on a puppet show using their under-the-sea animals as characters. Videotape the performance for the kids to watch later.
Food: Fish sticks are a sure bet for this theme. Also, you can cut hot dogs to look like an octopus by making four slits in one end of the hot dog and spreading the "tentacles" out to make the octopus stay upright. Blue-green punch is good for drinks and this Under the Ocean Cake is a good dessert option.

Decor: Set a table to look as grown-up as possible. Spread a tablecloth on the table and line it with teapots, cups and saucers. Let attendees bring dolls and wear fancy dress-up clothes. Have chairs available for stuffed animals who are also "attending" the party. Make sure each table has a gorgeous floral centerpiece and keep other decorations in flower bloom shades (pink, yellow and light purple).
Activities: Buy inexpensive straw hatsat craft and hobby stores, then collect ribbons, fabric and buttons so each guest can make her own tea party hat. Since the table is already set-up outside, a fun game of musical chairs (using classical music, of course) is also a great option.
Food: Hot tea is probably not a great option, but try sticking with brown-colored liquids (like soda or chocolate milk) so the beverage resembles tea. You can also set-up a fruit punch bowl as an alternative. Serve fancy finger sandwiches (mini-peanut butter and jelly or cucumber sandwiches) piled on a decorative plate as well as muffins, scones and fruit tarts.
