This birthday cake has a horse drawn on using icing.

This article is about ideas for horse happy birthday cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Cake ideas include a drawn-on horse, using a figurine as a topper, a horse-shaped cake, and others. You'll also love the cute horse cupcakes and how-to video. My recipe for horse shaped cookies is very easy.
Since my granddaughter loves horses, we've had many birthday parties with a horse theme. Sometimes we had a cake, and other times we used cookies or cupcakes instead. I'll be showing you a few of our ideas for her parties. These are for a girl, but could easily be altered for a boy.
In this article, you'll find ideas for:

1. Draw a Horse on Your Cake

This online cake order has the horse drawn on with icing and flowers added. Her cousin used a template to go by to draw the image. She found the template online and printed it out. I've known many people that had the talent to draw anything on a order cake free-hand, and maybe you can, too.

2. Horse Photo Cake Topper

If you aren't comfortable drawing, you can usually find lay-on cake toppers online or horse edible images at grocery bakery departments or online. At Kroger we had a special printer that I used to print images on sugar paper, using the customer's own photo or a stock image. Edible images make it simple to decorate a cake in a very personal way. Sometimes they don't want to cut the cake and mess up the design! One warning about edible images is that they are rather delicate and will break if you aren't careful.
Alternate idea: You can also use a photo of a horse that you already have, or find online, and have it laminated. Maybe you have a photo of your own horse! Then just lay the laminated photo onto the cake (I always put saran wrap under it). I've done this many times for unique images the grand-kids wanted. Then all you have to do is add a border and the birthday wish, and you have a fun birthday cake to India online !
